The choice starts with the use case: electrical work needs a conduit pipe (flexible, ribbed) that protects cables and allows easy replacement later, while plumbing and drainage need more rigid socket pipes. Pay attention to diameter — 3/4" suits one or two cables, while 1" and 1.25" suit multiple cables or main lines.

The most common mistake is choosing too small a diameter and later finding you can't pull an extra cable through. Another mistake is installing standard electrical conduit underground — for that you need a self-extinguishing corrugated pipe that meets the Israeli standard for underground and exposed runs.

In Israel, always check that conduit for electrical work is marked 'Self-Extinguishing', and that water pipes meet the relevant Israeli standard for hot or cold water depending on use.

Before installing, measure the exact route and add about 10% extra to each section — a small surplus is always better than an extra joint mid-run. Make sure you have the right cutting tool for conduit, plus sleeve couplings and fittings matching your chosen diameter.
